The history of Japanese Glass Shrimp in Toyama Bay dates back to the early 1870s.

During a cod fishing expedition, fishermen accidentally dropped their nets into deep waters.
When the nets were hauled back up, they discovered Japanese Glass Shrimp inside—
an event said to have marked the beginning of Japanese Glass Shrimp fishing.

Around 1897, Motokichi Hiai devised a fishing method that led to techniques still used today.
This innovation laid the foundation for the stable harvesting of Japanese Glass Shrimp in Toyama Bay.

Carrying on this lineage, Matsujiro Hiai (the grandfather of the current president) established Hiai Suisan Co., Ltd., a company engaged in the processing and distribution of seafood, including Japanese Glass Shrimp and firefly squid.
Hiai Suisan later evolved into what is now Nikko Kaisan Co., Ltd.

Since its establishment in 1984,
our company has played a role in this ongoing history—
from Japanese Glass Shrimp fishing to its processing and distribution.
